Timur A. Kulibayev
Chairman of KAZENERGY Association
Dear colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,
Kazakhstan is strongly committed to the principles of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative for achieving universal access to modern energy services, enhancing energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewables.
In order to facilitate progress in this area, we invite you to take part in the Ministerial Conference «Meeting the Challenge of Sustainable Energy» and the 8th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, to be held jointly with five UN Regional Commissions.
Your visit to Astana for the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 “Future Energy” is a unique opportunity to meet ministers of energy, leading world experts and heads of the most authoritative international energy organizations. KAZENERGY Association fully supports this dialogue and the involvement of all parties in a joint partnership to determine the next steps in managing the transformation of energy markets towards new business models and best practices.
The key objective of the Ministerial Conference on Energy is to seek answers to clean energy challenges, to develop solutions for the sustainable use of natural energy resources, and to establish partnerships in energy efficiency and transfer of green technologies.
We hope that the agreements reached by the ministers in Astana will be reflected in subsequent work on fulfilling collective arrangements in the framework of the UN.
At the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, put forward an initiative to establish an International Centre for Green Technologies and Investment Projects under the auspices of the United Nations.
The Ministerial Conference on Energy is a unique opportunity to support the creation of the international Centre and to discuss its future contribution to the heritage of today’s generation.
Kazakhstan has already achieved significant progress in sustainable development and plans to further diversify its economy through careful use of natural resources. The current priority of our country is to optimize the use of resources, to enhance the efficiency of environmental measures, and to create a green infrastructure. Investments in renewable energy sources are constantly growing.
I am confident that progress in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will help Kazakhstan to improve the quality of life of its people and to advance in the pursuit of its goal to join the top 30 most developed countries in the world. The country’s existing strategies and priorities, including the Kazakhstan 2050 Strategy, the Five Institutional Reforms, and the 100 Specific Steps, are being implemented as part of achieving the SDGs.
We invite all interested countries and business structures to work with us on a very ambitious reform agenda.
I am sure that our joint efforts and the power of partnership will allow us to achieve the objectives that we have set.
